Example: Successful export to Sweden seminar in Uganda
In December 2018, Open Trade Gate Sweden held a successful export seminar in Kampala, Uganda, in collaboration with the Swedish Embassy and the Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB). The participants included 30 companies, as well as delegates from sector associations. The Ministry of Trade Industry and cooperatives received good media coverage.
The seminar focused on mandatory requirements to export fruit and vegetables, oilseeds and pulses and coffee to Sweden, as well as information on the EU’s economic relations, the Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP), product classification, and rules of origin. The seminar also covered information on the Swedish market and how to approach it. This part of the seminar was conducted by a market expert on behalf of Open Trade Gate Sweden.
The Uganda Revenue Authority informed the audience on the issuance of Generalised Scheme of Preferences (GSP), Certificates in Uganda and the new registered export system (REX-system) currently being implemented in Uganda.
Two companies in the coffee- and fruit sectors presented their experiences on exporting to the EU. Their success was a source of inspiration for those participants who are at an earlier stage of the export process.
