Export to Sweden 2.0 – Support for Ukrainian food companies exporting to Sweden

Export to Sweden 2.0 is a development cooperation programme designed to strengthen selected Ukrainian food companies’ ability to access the Swedish market. The programme targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and focuses on increasing export readiness, facilitating market entry, and building long-term business relationships with Swedish buyers.

Russia’s war against Ukraine has affected companies’ operating conditions in several ways, including disrupted supply chains, high transportation costs, and limited opportunities to invest in production and adaptation. For food companies, additional requirements related to food safety, labelling, certifications, and sustainability must be met in order to sell products in Sweden and the EU.

At the same time, there are good opportunities for trade. The EU’s trade agreements with Ukraine include simplified procedures for many food products. Export to Sweden 2.0 helps companies make practical use of these opportunities.

Expected outcomes

Export to Sweden 2.0 provides companies with hands-on support to take concrete steps towards the Swedish market. The aim is to help companies move from aspirations and initial contacts to actual sales in Sweden.

Through the programme:

  • companies strengthen their knowledge of Swedish and EU regulations and market requirements;
  • companies receive support in adapting their products, packaging, and overall offer to the needs of Swedish buyers;
  • conditions are created for long-term business relationships and recurring exports.

How The National Board of Trade’s support works

The programme is implemented by Open Trade Gate Sweden (OTGS) at the National Board of Trade Sweden, in partnership with Ukraine’s Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office (EEPO). It combines training, advisory services, and matchmaking with Swedish market actors.

Focus is on lowering barriers to export and providing companies with practical tools to navigate regulatory requirements, logistics, and market expectations. Participating companies receive support to better understand the Swedish market, take part in trade fairs, and establish and follow up business contacts with Swedish buyers, importers, and distributors.

Results from Export to Sweden

In autumn 2025, about ten Ukrainian food suppliers began selling their products in Swedish grocery retail through a collaboration with Arvid Nordquist. The products include honey, snacks, grain-based products, and berry- and fruit-based goods.
