Rising Swedish interest in trade with Ukraine, combined with demand for sustainable, nearshored production, creates new opportunities for Ukrainian brands to turn interest into business
In 2026, Open Trade Gate Sweden (OTGS) supports Ukrainian apparel and accessories brands in entering the Swedish market.
The aim is to assist Ukrainian companies to move from initial contacts to concrete business partnerships and sales opportunities in Sweden. The programme focuses on strengthening companies’ export readiness, facilitating market entry, and building long-term relationships with Swedish buyers and actors in the fashion industry.
The programme targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ukraine and is implemented in cooperation with the Entrepreneurship and Export Promotion Office of Ukraine (EEPO).
Background
Ukrainian textile and apparel companies are currently facing major challenges as a result of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, companies need to meet strict EU and Swedish requirements related to sustainability, traceability, product compliance, and buyer expectations.
Despite these challenges, Ukraine’s textile sector has shown resilience and reliability, continuing to deliver high-quality products even under difficult circumstances.
Swedish consumers and retailers are increasingly interested in stronger trade ties with Ukraine. Combined with growing demand for sustainable, closer-to-home production, this creates new opportunities for Ukrainian brands to establish themselves turn this opportunity into business.
