WTO Trade and Environment Week: Securing and decarbonising value chains

Meet the National Board of Trade´s trade policy adviser Erik Merkus at WTO Trade and Environment Week, who will discuss the importance of trade policy for securing and decarbonising value chains, from a private sector perspective.
What are the opportunities and challenges faced by companies when decarbonising their value chains in a business environment shaped by climate risks, policy uncertainty and geopolitical tensions? This session wants to shed light on the issues faced by companies with ambitious climate goals and to examine how trade policy can assist.

The session will open with an overview of trade policy approaches for decarbonisation, emphasising on instruments that can assist private sector decarbonisation efforts. Policy approaches such as harmonising standards for measurement and certification of supply chain greenhouse gas emissions, trade facilitation, transparency and traceability measures, and removing barriers to trade in low-carbon goods and services will be covered.
