The EU:s Internal Market – its development since EU enlargement 1995 and going forward
In 1995, Austria, Finland and Sweden joined the EU and gained access to the then newly launched Internal Market. What has this meant for our respective countries and what have our countries contributed to the development of the EU and the Internal Market? The EU has since seen three enlargements and is preparing for welcoming more new members in the future.
Which EU will the present candidate countries join and what adjustments might be necessary for the Internal Market to accommodate new members? We will also explore differences between present EU Member States in support for candidate countries and what this might mean for the current enlargement process; while Austria focuses mainly on support for the Western Balkan, the Nordics direct their focus towards Ukraine and Moldova.
Speakers:
- Anders Ahnlid (Director General National Board of Trade Sweden),
- Ambassador of Finland in Sweden (tba)
- Doris Danler (Ambassador of Austria in Sweden)
- Brigitte Pircher (Associate Professor in Political Science Research: EU politics, EU institutions, policy-making, EU law and its implementation, social policies, internal market at Södertörn University).
