US trade in goods has slowed since the new US tariffs were introduced. At the same time, there has been no major increase in imports from China to the EU. Follow statistics on important trade flows on our website – with updates every month.

The past year’s trade policy developments have been dramatic. Today, the average US global tariff level is 19 percent, compared with 2.5 per cent at the beginning of the year. Tariffs have been raised gradually, but the largest increase occurred in early April 2025, when they were raised in a single step to 14 per cent.

Do you want to keep up-to-date on changes in trade flows? The National Board of Trade´s new statistics show the most relevant and up-to-date graphs of trade in goods for the EU and the US, as well as imports to the EU and Germany from China – all in one place. The statistics are updated every month.

“Our graphs provide an overview of how the EU´s trade flows with the US and China have evolved during the year and compared with previous years. All conveniently gathered in one place”, says Mai Ahrne Bojang, trade policy adviser at the National Board of Trade.

No dramatic change in trade with China

One important observation is that in the second and third quarters (Q2 and Q3, April–September), there has been no major increase in imports from China to the EU. This holds true whether compared with the corresponding period in 2024 or with January–March 2025.

US goods exports have shown a downward trend since the tariffs were introduced, but remain higher during the period April–August 2025 compared with the same period in 2024.

The statistics presented come from two different sources: Eurostat and Trade Data Monitor.
